Last year when my son started pre-k I had no inclination to make his lunches for him. I figured he could eat the provided school lunch and that would be just fine. He had other plans. He came home one day telling me all about how this other boy brought his lunch to school and he needed to fill up his lunch box and take it as well. I tried to convince him otherwise, but it was just no use. His mind was made up.
This year he is in kindergarten and he still wants to take his lunch to school with him. We have actually sat down and looked over the school lunch menu to pick out days we think would be good “bring your own lunch” days. So far we have about two days a week that we want to pack something up for him to bring to school. Of course this means we needed a new lunchbox for school. The one he used last year actually got damaged because the kids had been using it as a play toy for their pretend kitchen.
I was lucky enough to find out about this great service from Frecklebox where you can create personalized lunchboxes, plus many more personalized products. I asked my son to pick out which lunchbox he would like to put his name on, and he just knew he wanted one with the race car on it! I think it looks so cool, take a look:
Here is a side view of the tracks going around the sides:
We have used the lunchbox a few times now, and so far it has worked out great. Here is a picture of one of the lunches we packed up for him, as you can see it really can hold a lot of stuff — there was tons of room left over after we added his favorite things.
An added bonus was the chalkboard on the inside cover! I just love being able to leave little notes for him that he can see when he opens the box at school. He can’t read very well yet, so my notes are limited at this point, but he does understand pictures!
Another fun item we got from Frecklebox was the matching notebook to go with this lunchbox. My son picked out the notebook with flames on it, and of course it was personalized with his name. When we took it to his school during orientation, his teacher got a big kick out of it and was asking all about where he got it from! I think it is cute as well, and now no one will ever be confused about which notebook is his!
WHAT THE MOMMY BUNCH SAYS:
So far the lunchbox has worked out great. It is very deep so it holds a lot of items, and since it is made out of aluminum it is quite durable. The only thing I am a little worried about are the tiny rivets that hold it together. I’ve worried that some of them might come apart at some point since they are so small, but so far so good. I also put a paper towel down on the bottom whenever he is bringing any refrigerated items, as I’m worried moisture might cause the metal to start to rust, but that is just me being worried I suppose. I’m not sure if that will happen or not.
Overall this lunchbox has been great. My son was thrilled to have his name printed on it, and the size is perfect. I definitely recommend this product if you are looking for something personalized.
