Ooka Island – A Learn-to-Read Adventure @OokaIsland #SmartStart

I’ve been looking for a way to help my son improve his reading skills without him realizing what we are doing. He hates doing ‘homework’, and anytime we try to help him with school work he shuts down. We’ve tried drills, writing practice, and just reading for fun. Nothing seems to keep him too interested, but recently I learned about Ooka Island.

Ooka Island is a fun adventure that helps kids master the fundamentals of reading without realizing it.

About Ooka Island

Ooka Island Inc. is an educational company committed to using science-based reading methods and technology to increase literacy skills for children. Our goal is to teach children to read fluently and well through reading instruction that is fun and compelling. The Ooka Island Learn-to-Read Adventure offers 80 hours of adaptive instruction, a narrated e-Reader and real-time progress reports. Young learners play in a safe, 3D virtual world and take part in a heroic quest! Ooka Island is compatible with PC and Mac.

I can’t wait to give this program a try for my six year old son, and for my four year old daughter. I’m excited to see his reading skills improve and excited to get my daughter started on the right path in learning to read!

I’ll let you know Megan. My daughter was playing it today and was really entrenched in the game. She really seemed to like it so hopefully we can keep at it!
