Personalized Children’s Books – Review & Giveaway (WW)

REVIEW:

Champion Me Books gives you the opportunity to create customizable books that you can purchase in hardcover, soft cover, or E-book form. I created four customized E-books to review with my kids. I like the fact that with each book your child is the character. You add their name and create the character’s looks based on what your own child looks like. You can also add a dedication to each book. All of the books have a great story line, and are told in a fun, rhyming, sing song way. The illustrations are funny, charming, sophisticated and engaging.

My favorite out of all of the books was “Macey Vs the Scribble Monster”. My daughter Macey has a really bad habit of coloring on anything but the paper she is suppose to use, so the plot was one that I thought really taught her a valuable lesson. She enjoyed hearing her name in the book, and kept pointing at the character saying “That’s Macey!”

I was a little leery trying the e-book format. But I loaded it to my Android phone and we read it through a free e-reader app. I can really see the value of having the books in this format and on my cell phone.  Since I always have my phone with me, I can pull my phone out and we can read these e-books whenever we want, especially in places like waiting rooms. I think these e-books would be enjoyed even more on devices such as Ipads, as the screen is larger. But for the time being, we’ll enjoy them on my phone!

Here are the four available book options:

PhoneFetcher – Never Lose your Phone Again! Review and Giveaway (US/CA 18+)

About PhoneFetcher:

The PhoneFetcher takes the stress and hassle out of a woman’s day, by allowing her to always know where her cell phone is!

No more digging in our purses to find a ringing phone and missing calls!

No more forgetting phones, and leaving them places (home, office, restaurants, cabs etc.), only to have to backtrack to find it. No more mini panic attacks!

PhoneFetcher attaches to a purse, back back, gym bag, baby bag, belt loop, etc. on one end, and the other end attaches easily to the earphone plug of a smart phone, mp3 player etc.

PhoneFetcher is made on a stretchable bungee cord, which allows texting and viewing without having to disconnect the phone. When the phone is removed from the bag, we leave our PhoneFetchers hanging out of our bag to alert us as we leave, that we do not have our phone with us.

Phonefetcher is as easily removed from your phone as an earphone is, and comes in 8 fun colors!

Review:

When I first received the PhoneFetcher I was a little skeptical about how well it was going to work for me.  Honestly, at first it didn’t really help me out much.  I am always in such a rush going from here to there that I just whip my phone into my purse and head out the door.  Later I would be digging through my purse trying to find my phone that was now buried under everything (I have an unnecessarily large purse).

I realized if this was going to work for me I would need to get into the habit of attaching the phone to the PhoneFetcher FIRST, and save myself all that time digging around later.  You know what, it really does work!  If you take the five seconds to attach it to the cord, you save yourself the hassle later because all you have to do is follow the cord and you find your phone right away!  Now just to get into the habit of not dumping my phone and running :-) !  I have to say, in the week and a half that I’ve been using it, it has gotten easier and easier to remember to attach it every time I go somewhere.

The only thing that you have to be careful about is not jamming it into your earphone plug-in.  If you do it might damage it, so you really have to take your time and attach it carefully, but I think the little bit of time it takes is probably worth finding your phone fast later when it is ringing or you really need it.

Review:
I was provided the Dinner is Ready cookbook by 30 Meals in One Day, and I couldn’t have been more thrilled!  I have been searching for an easy way to do make-ahead meals that I can freeze for use on a future date.  This cookbook was the perfect solution because it not only has over 150 recipes, it also lays out step by step instructions to make sure you don’t get overwhelmed with the process.
I have to admit, I have not yet found a day to try out the 30 meals in one day technique, but I have high hopes to do so soon!  I think the main reason I haven’t been able to try this out yet is because my husband works seven days a week and it is difficult for me to find time when I can have the kitchen all to myself, with no kids or distractions.  The book says you do need to have a day where you can simply dedicate your time to preparing meals.

Hitler’s Demons

Blurb:

Philip, Baron von Feldburg, is a young General Staff officer, deeply concerned about the direction Germany is going and distressed by the policies of the Nazi government, but in 1938 the whole country seems captivated by the pied piper from Austria, Adolf Hitler. Philip’s own family is no exception. While his younger brother is thrilled to be flying the Luftwaffe’s latest fighter, his younger sister marries a self-made man with good Nazi Party connections and a bright future.

As Nazi victory follows Nazi victory, Philip feels increasingly isolated and obsolete – until he meets Alexandra v. Mollwitz, an attractive young secretary. In Alix Philip finds a kindred spirit and love – and through her comes in contact with a group of senior officers actively working to overthrow the Nazi regime.

The medical student Marianne Moldenauer finds the Nazis brutal and barbaric. Acting out of naked humanitarianism, she finds herself drawn into an underworld of illegal activity directed at saving the victims of the racist dictatorship. But the young man she has fallen in love with is an idealistic commissar of the Gestapo. With each day the risk of her two lives coming in conflict grows more intense.

Review:

I must admit when I got the option to review this book, I took it because of the name.  I love stories told about the war and fiction stories are almost as good as the real thing. I will say it was a little hard to get past the first page. I don’t know what was going on in my head but it just did not want to cooperate with me, but in the end I ended up flying through it.

Hitler’s Demons is a book based around a guy named Philip. He is in the German military so you think he would be supportive of Hitler, but he secretly wasn’t.  He was part of a group called German Home Army, who was planning the assassination of Hitler, the Valkyrie.

The book goes through the events and how other people played a part in it.  It truly is fascinating. We know that attempt had actually failed, and many were caught and put to death without trial.

It is a long book I will admit. But if you’re fascinated by war books then this a book for you. I will not say that I didn’t struggle; German Language and some military wording threw me off.  I am in a military family and I had to pause and think of ranks as I was reading. Overall this is a very good book and I recommend it to everyone.
