I had the opportunity to try Tropical Traditions’ Gold Label Virgin Coconut Oil and was not disappointed!  My husband, who does a lot of the cooking around our house lately, said that he really liked it (and trust me, coming from him this a truly a compliment because it is hard to get him to say he likes anything)!  He told me the coconut oil melts nicely in the pan, and the foods have a very light coconut-y taste, which he really enjoyed.  The funny thing is I didn’t even have to ask him what he thought of it, he just came out and told me one day, “that coconut oil you got, love it!”

I have used it a few times myself since getting the jar, and I have to say I agree that it is really simple to use and the food tastes great!  I didn’t notice the coconut-y taste so much, but I guess my husband must have or he wouldn’t have said it.  I haven’t had a chance to use it in any baking recipes yet, but I can’t wait to do so!  Once I try it out, I’ll even post a recipe for you so stay tuned!

If you are unfamiliar with coconut oil, it comes in a hard form (kinda like lard), but it scoops out very easily and melts quickly.  You can use it to fry, bake, or just about anything you would normally use oil for!  In fact, Tropical Traditions provided me with this wonderful video showing you some of the many uses for coconut oil.  Take a look:

My Review

I have had a really scratchy throat lately, mostly due to allergies, but also due to dry air in our home.  My allergy medication helps me to breath easier, but it doesn’t do anything for my sore throat.  When I got the opportunity to try these throat lozenges, I thought it came at a perfect time since I really needed to do something to help with the scratchiness!

Chloraseptic Warming Sore Throat Lozenges start off with this refreshing lemon flavor, and you can feel the heat almost instantly.  But to be honest, when my throat is sore I don’t know if heat is what I really want.  It sounded like a good idea in theory, but once I started using them I realized it might not be exactly what I need.  Some people may like a warming sensation when their throat is sore, but for me it just seemed like it added to the burning I already felt in my throat.  Now don’t get me wrong, I have used other Chloraseptic products, such as their throat sprays (which my husband swears by), so if you want to try them for yourself, they may work for you.  I just don’t think warming is for me.  If you have tried them tell us what you think!

Have you use Chloraseptic Sore Throat products? If so what has been your experience?  What would you think about using warming sore throat lozenges?

An egg-cellent treat for Easter!

Just in time for Easter, my family and I were able to sample some yummy Pillsbury® Ready to Bake!TM Shape® Cookies!  Even though I love to bake from scratch when I have the time, I also love these ready to bake cookies because, well lets face it, I don’t always have all the time in the world to be whipping up a batch of cookies from scratch!  With working 3 jobs, and running kids around to gymnastics, and just getting stuff done around the house, it is a miracle I have time to make dinner let alone cookies from scratch (oh wait, my husband usually makes dinner… ok so I have some help, but still!).

Making these cookies is so easy, and the kids love it too!  Here are a few pictures of the kids helping with the cookies:

My beautiful daughter arranging her cookies on the cookie sheet (I did have to tell her to try and space them out a little more, lol)

Here is her final result, she was so proud!

My awesome son helping out. He was mad in this picture because he got busted trying to eat the cookies before they were baked, lol. He got over it quickly though because he really wanted to help!

How would you like to win your own batch of ready to bake cookies, PLUS a cookie jar, oven mitt, and spatula!??   You would?  Oh great, because I have a prize package available for you to win!  You won’t get it by Easter, but it’ll still be a great prize package!  If you win, you will get the following from Pillsbury via MyBlogSpark:

  • A VIP coupon to purchase a package of Pillsbury Ready to Bake! Shape Cookies
  • Cookie Jar
  • Cookie Spatula
  • Oven Mitt
If you want to try the cookies before waiting to see if you win, you can download a coupon for $1.10 off by clicking here.

Beanfields Bean & Rice Chips!

Have you ever heard of chips that are made out of beans and rice?  Neither had I until I tried Beanfields!  I have to admit, as an avid chip eater/lover, I was a little skeptical as to how these would go over, not only with me, but my family as well.  We are so used to eating potato, tortilla, and corn chips, I just wan’t sure what to expect.

In order to help you understand whether these chips get the “approved” status or not, I have to tell you about my kids’ reaction first.  You see, whenever I get boxes in the mail (which is quite often), my kids are very eager to help me open the box and see what might be inside.  When we opened this box, they were so excited to see that it was chips, they were literally begging for me to open one up right away so they could have some.  This is where I started to get a little nervous, because I wasn’t sure if they were going to like the flavor or not.  I figured, what the heck, I won’t even tell them what kind of chips they are (my kids are 2 and 5), I’ll just let them try them and get their reaction.  Well my son loved them, he kept eating them until I told him he couldn’t have any more until after dinner.  Then, later that night he asked if he could have more!  My daughter, who is 2 and doesn’t really care one way or the other about food usually, didn’t seem to mind eating them either.  Apparently these were a hit after all, and the fact that they tasted a little bit different than normal potato chips didn’t really bother them.

The thing I really like about Beanfields, is that they actually have some nutrients in them!  According to Beanfields: “Beanfields chips give you important nutrition your body needs. A one-ounce serving has 4 grams of protein and 4 grams of fiber—twice as much as most other tortilla chips, corn chips, or potato chips. Beanfields are tasty snacks you can feel good about giving your family!

All of our Crispylicious Corn Free Bean & Rice Tortilla Chips are verified to be free of any genetically-modified organisms (non-GMO) and have received the prestigious Non-GMO Verification awarded by the Non-GMO Project!”

Their bags also claim to be gluten free, so any of you out there with celiac disease might want to check these out!

Now for my own personal take:

The Pico de Gallo flavor was the one the kids originally got out of the box and wanted to try (which was another reason I was skeptical, as I didn’t know if it would be spicy or not–it wasn’t).  I think this was actually my favorite flavor of all the varieties we tried.  The chips don’t have a ton of flavoring on them, and occasionally you can definitely get the hint of beans, but overall they are tasty and crispy.  Just what you want in a good chip.

The Nacho flavor was really good as well.  As a matter of fact, I think all of the chips were decent in the flavor category, and they all were very crispy.  I think at times the bean flavor did get a little overwhelming, but for the most part, the chips were great for a mid-day snack at work, or an evening snack while watching our favorite shows.

The other flavors I tried were:

Naturally Unsalted             Sea Salt       and          Sea Salt and Pepper

If you want to find out more about these, and any other flavors Beanfields has to offer, or where you can purchase the chips, visit the website here.
