Using a Kitchen Scale to Measure Ingredients ~ A Review and Giveaway (US 18+)

Do you love to bake?  If so you probably know that weighing your ingredients is much more accurate than using measuring cups or spoons.  I have known this for a while but haven’t been serious enough about my baking to actually go out and get myself a kitchen scale.  I would have liked to, but I just don’t have that much time to dedicate to baking right now, and a scale was low on the priority list.  Then I was introduced to Ozeri, and I thought, this would be a great time to really try out a scale and see if it will work for me.  I was able to try out the Ozeri Pro Digital Kitchen Food Scale, which actually reminded me of my science teacher days, but that is a story for another time.  :-)

ABOUT

The Ozeri Pro Digital Kitchen Scale is designed for the culinary perfectionist who desires the superior accuracy in function and elegance in form. This multifunction Kitchen Scale incorporates oversized buttons that generate an audible click confirmation for the fast-paced cook, and an automatic Tare button that quickly calculates the net weight of your ingredients by subtracting the container weight, whether the container is a bowl, tray, plate or anything else. The scale is finished in an elegant chrome color, and has a capacity range from a mere 0.05 ounces to 12 lbs. The scale also displays results in both the US and international metric systems (grams | ounces | pounds | kilograms). The large screen features a new bright LCD with an improved viewing angle for the on-the-go cook. The Pro Digital Kitchen Scale Kitchen Scale also includes a 3 minute automatic turn-off that preserves battery life while giving you time to confirm each measurement (batteries included). 100% Satisfaction Guarantee.

REVIEW

I haven’t had a chance to use this a lot, like I said, we are pretty busy and short on time for things like baking; however, I was able to try it out a couple of times.  What I really like about the scale is that it has a very easy to read screen, and the tare function is essential.  As a science teacher, using a scale (or balance as we call it in science class) with the tare function gives you accurate results without having to put everything directly on the weighing plate.  Uou can instead put your ingredients into a bowl, on a plate, or any other medium you choose.  Just don’t forget to put the empty container on the scale and hit tare first!  This scale is also easy to clean, just wipe and go.  There are not a lot of extra features that come with this scale, but you can adjust between US and Metric measuring systems, and there is an auto shut-off feature to save battery life.  Overall this scale is perfect for someone who just needs a simple, inexpensive scale that will be useful.
