4 Weeks to a Clutter Free Home: Challenge #14

4 weeks challenge

So, upstairs closet is DONE!  Today I am moving on to another closet…the linen closet.  Although I already pulled out some sheets to get rid of previous, it is still a mess in there and opening the door could be hazardous. Time to clean it up! Remember, the tasks for today should be completed with the idea of accomplishing the goals you set up for the week (see Challenge #11 if you missed the details).

Challenge #14

  • Look at your list of weekly goals and come up with a specific list of 4-5 things you can accomplish today. Don’t spend a ton of time on this step, just use your weekly goals a reference, and narrow down from there how you plan to accomplish at least one of those goals.
    • My list for today includes tackling the linen closet. Pulling out any old, worn out sheets and comforters, as well as organizing it a bit.
  • Find 5 items to get rid of today. Throw them out, put them in a bin designated for donation items or in a garage sale box. You can also give them to a friend or list them to sell, but make it a goal not to hang onto anything for more than a week. If it doesn’t sell, donate it.
  • Set a timer for 15 minutes and wipe off the top of your kitchen cabinets (if there is a space up there), also clean off any clutter on the top of your refrigerator.  Go through any items that you don’t need (either on your cabinets or refrigerator) and see if you can either get rid of it or find a more suitable home for it. Wipe down the outside of your kitchen cupboards if you have time left.

If you feel you are not very good at setting your own goals and making lists, feel free to follow my plan. Work on your an extra room in your home today (or a kids room if you don’t have a spare room), along with the other bullet points, and tomorrow we will have a new area to tackle!

Keep in mind, I do work a full time job outside the home, so all of these tasks are designed to be easily completed regardless of your other commitments.

(Please note: I am not an expert in organization by any means. I simply did a lot of research online and found many many resources on how to accomplish what it is I am looking to do. From there I came up with my own plan for what I thought would be a great way to achieve the goal of an organized home in four weeks. Feel free to take all the time and energy I put into researching this and try to organize your own home!).

I just saw this one, and am going to go back to week one and see if I can manage it with my busy schedule (I'm a full-time college student with four kids LOL)! If not, I'll see if I can modify it a bit to work with me. I need to do something SOON... Reply

Modify away... we all know life happens and honestly it is hard to keep up every day. Just do what you can and it will all fall into place. :-) Reply

I could probably argue with you, but I've actually been doing really good by "forcing" myself to stick to this goal! Reply

I have been trying to figure out to become clutter free and how to add more room in our house. We moved into our house 4 years ago and now we have a 5 year old son to add to the clutter, especially with all of his toys. Pinterest has some awesome ways to relieve clutter and I have been trying to figure out which ones I want to use, but because I work a full-time job it is hard to incorporate everything I want to do. I appreciate this article about 4 weeks to a clutter free home because it gradually takes someone to make it to this step. I am going to incorporate your ideas and I am hoping that this works. Thanks for sharing. Reply

Good luck...and just remember, Rome wasn't built in a day...or something like that. :-) If you come across setbacks don't give up, we all still have lives to live! Reply

This series is extremely helpful to me. I never really want to deal with the clutter in my house but now I feel like I am not alone. My closets are my biggest hurdle. Reply
