Driven from their homes and dispersed across the land, this band of Ronin must seek the help of Kai -a half-breed they once rejected-as they fight their way across a savage world of mythic beasts, shape-shifting witchcraft and wondrous terrors. My thoughts on 47 Ronin

First let me preface this by saying I love historical movies that have some sort of mythical aspect to them. I am not a huge Keanu Reeves fan. With that being said, I think this role actually suited him perfectly and he did a wonderful job playing his character. The overall feel of the movie was great, as was the story.

Where I feel the movie lacked was in further developing the back-story, and delving deeper into the characters themselves. What was, in my opinion, some over-the-top almost unbelievable CGI should have been scaled back and instead replaced with full character and story development. I’m not saying the story was bad, in fact quite the contrary — I rather enjoyed this movie. I just feel that it could have gone even further and been somewhat of a stand-out movie had it been a little more story and a little less special effects.

If I were to give it a rating I would say it gets a 3 and even possibly a 3.5 out of 5. I liked the movie, and would actually consider watching it again…which is saying a lot because I am not one to ever watch movies more than once (except the ones my kids watch over and over).
