About 47 Ronin

Keanu Reeves makes an explosive return to action-adventure in 47 Ronin. After a treacherous warlord kills their master and banishes their kind, 47 leaderless samurai vow to seek vengeance and restore honor to their people. Driven from their homes and dispersed across the land, this band of Ronin must seek the help of Kai -a half-breed they once rejected-as they fight their way across a savage world of mythic beasts, shape-shifting witchcraft and wondrous terrors. As this exiled, enslaved outcast becomes their most deadly weapon, he will transform into the hero who inspires this band of outnumbered rebels to seize eternity.

My thoughts on 47 Ronin

First let me preface this by saying I love historical movies that have some sort of mythical aspect to them. I am not a huge Keanu Reeves fan. With that being said, I think this role actually suited him perfectly and he did a wonderful job playing his character. The overall feel of the movie was great, as was the story.

Where I feel the movie lacked was in further developing the back-story, and delving deeper into the characters themselves. What was, in my opinion, some over-the-top almost unbelievable CGI should have been scaled back and instead replaced with full character and story development. I’m not saying the story was bad, in fact quite the contrary — I rather enjoyed this movie. I just feel that it could have gone even further and been somewhat of a stand-out movie had it been a little more story and a little less special effects.

If I were to give it a rating I would say it gets a 3 and even possibly a 3.5 out of 5. I liked the movie, and would actually consider watching it again…which is saying a lot because I am not one to ever watch movies more than once (except the ones my kids watch over and over).

I haven't seen Keanu Reeves in much of anything except back to Speed. I can't quite picture him in this role but it is definitely an intriguing story line. Reply

I haven't seen this movie yet. I actually like Keanu Reeves, but maybe more so because his personal story is so sad and I feel for him. I liked him in Something's gotta give (which is a great movie on its own). I am a huge fan of historical movies too, and I agree- I feel that sometimes Hollywood puts too much emphasis on special effects, and not enough on historical accuracy, back stories, and character development. I think my hubby might enjoy this movie, so I will definitely pass the info to him. Thanks! :-) Reply
