Big Country – Enjoy Anywhere Life Takes You

Millions of Americans have never traveled or left the state they grew up in. It wasn’t until I was graduating high school that I took my first trip across the country, and that was due to a class trip. Many have dreamed of taking a special trip of their own but lack the time or opportunity to do so.

This summer, U.S. Cellular is helping to change that for five deserving customers! U.S. Cellular is teaming up with award-winning television personality, chef and food writer, Andrew Zimmern, to premiere “Big Country,” a five-episode digital series where the mobile carrier and Zimmern find deserving customers from across the U.S. and take them to places they’ve always wanted to visit, including New York City, Portland, Maine, Bend, Ore. and San Francisco. U.S. Cellular delivers national coverage from coast to coast to the middle of anywhere across this Big Country and I cannot wait to find out about these fun trips!

Big Country – a travel experience!

In Big Country, you will meet Julius, who traveled to New York City for the first time and gets to experience several firsts – like a helicopter ride over the city!IMG_20150626_112802

Laurie, who heads off to Bend, Oregon and takes off in a High Desert Sail Plane.

Then there is also Debbie who takes a trip to San Francisco, and Lisa, who visits Portland, Maine. Both are sure to be great trips full of fun and adventure!

All of these travelers were nominated for the once-in-a-lifetime trips by friends and family who encouraged them to enjoy the traveling experience. Their stories include overcoming the fear of flying and seeing the New York City skyline via a helicopter tour.

What I loved about watching the first episode with Julius (available online now at Big Country) is that even though he was thousands of miles away from his family having the trip of a lifetime, he could still stay connected to his loved ones back home no matter where he went.

This was so different from the first trip I ever took away from my family. I was still in high school and a cellphone was not even a thought for me at that time. I didn’t speak to my family the entire time I was gone on the trip – I wonder if that was nerve-wracking for my parents?

Looking for one more traveler

U.S. Cellular is searching for one more hopeful explorer to star in the fifth and final episode of “Big Country.” You can apply or nominate others HERE, now until August 10 for the opportunity to travel with Andrew Zimmern, backed by U.S. Cellular’s nationwide wireless coverage. This opportunity is only opened for U.S. Cellular customers.

Be sure to connect with U.S. Cellular and Big Country to watch more episodes, apply for yourself or a friend, and keep up to date on all these fun travel adventures!

I travel quite a bit, but I live in a small state, so it's easy to get around to other states here in New England. Reply

I think this is the coolest idea for a show ever. I love how these people have never traveled anywhere before. Reply

This sounds like a fun show! I'm not a world traveler, but I have lived all across Canada. I've also visited many US states. Reply

Wow, it would be fun to get picked for Big Country. I have not been anywhere in the Northwest of our country! Reply

This is great for families who need to see something different in their lives. I'm certainly no world traveler, but I've at least been a few places and seen a few things. It's fun to visit new places and meet new people. Reply

We traveled so much before the kids and had a blast. I learned that you can really save a lot on all-inclusive places and to always do homework... Reply

My main tip for new travelers would be to make sure you check out reviews before you pick a place to go. Never pack as much as you think you are going to need. Reply

I think my biggest tip s to have a plan but to take a breath and roll with things if the plan doesn't always go, well, to plan. I'll have to check these episodes out! Reply
