I am not usually a red wine drinker, especially Merlot. I like a sweeter wine versus a dry wine. But as the weather has turned colder, I am beginning to appreciate the warmth of a red wine.

I received my shipment from the California Wine club on opening weekend of deer hunting – when my husband was gone. After I put the kids to bed, I poured myself a glass of the Daniel Gehrs Merlot – 2009 and settled into my favorite chair.

I have to say, as far as a Merlot goes, it is one of the better ones I have tried. I found it an enjoyable, well structured, and pleasantly complex wine with fresh acidity.

The more I sipped this wine, the more it grew on me. For the first time ever, I finished a whole bottle of Merlot!

I would definitely recommend this wine. It’s warmth and complexity is perfect for the winter and holiday season.
