Fall by far is my favorite season. I love the colors and the smells of it. I love the crisp chill that is in the air. I love watching football on Sundays, and cooking soups and stews. There is something about the season that makes me indulge in wine more often.

I opened this month’s shipment from the California Wine Club on a Friday night after spending the day with my daughter at the pumpkin patch. I lit a pumpkin spice candle and cozied up with a blanket, good book, and a glass of Robledo Family Winery’s 2009 Tempranillo.

I was very interested to try this wine, as I had never had a Tempranillo before. I was a little hesitant because normally I prefer a sweet white wine over red wine. I normally don’t go for reds, and dislike a dry wine.

I poured a bit into my glass, and the aroma was of cranberry, blackberry and spice.

I took a sip, and was overcome by a complex, spicy, rich taste. I could taste undertones of cranberries, blackberries, and smoky oak with a rich finish, with just a touch of dryness.

Like I said, I usually dislike a dry wine, but this one was fabulous and not too dry. This wine was perfect for a chilly fall day. By all means, I do not consider myself a wine connoisseur. I just know what I like and don’t like. And I can say that I enjoyed this wine, and would purchase a bottle to drink again.
