I say it every year. I have high-reaching ambitions when the kids are heading back to school and I just know that ‘I’m going to send my kids to school with homemade lunches‘ every day. I say this with high hopes of having the time and energy to actually plan out a lunch each day, but this year I’ve made it a priority and the kids have been going to school with a lunch packed by me on a regular basis!
Carrots, raspberries, turkey, peanut butter pretzel balls, Dannon® Danimals® smoothie. Trail mix is also in their lunch bags.
While my kids do still eat school lunch occasionally, but I’m super happy that I’ve been giving them healthy lunches from home as often as possible. I have even been posting pictures on my personal Facebook page to give other parents lunch ideas besides just sandwiches, which can get pretty boring after a while if you ask me (if anyone is interested in having me post these to The Mommy Bunch Facebook page please let me know and I’ll do so).
I always try to include some sort of protein, vegetables, fruit, dairy, and then a fun little treat or snack. Here is a lunch I packed earlier this year that my kids really enjoyed.

Strawberries & grapes, summer sausage, cheese, pita crackers, pistachios, carrots, peanut butter for dipping carrots and/or crackers, and a little treat (chocolate & raisins).
Recently, the kids have asked for yogurt in their lunch boxes. I am not a huge fan of most of the yogurt products on the market, but I found the Dannon® Danimals® products provide “Only the Good Stuff®” with no high fructose corn syrup or artificial flavors, as well as provides a good source of calcium and vitamin D. They are perfect for sticking in lunchboxes (and they just happen to fit in our lunchboxes perfectly).
Since we were heading to Walmart anyway this last weekend, we grabbed some of the Dannon® Danimals® and then had a little fun packing lunches for Monday. We learned that if you find a “Golden Bongo” bottle (located in specially marked packages), you could win a Play60 Field Day for your school with NFL pros! We, of course, had to check all the bottles right away.
Even though we didn’t see a “Golden Bongo”, we still had tons of fun with these collector’s edition athletes pictured on the bottles. The winning team in our Lunchbox Challenge game got to hop into the lunchboxes. It was super cute and lots of fun to play around – don’t ever say that you don’t get to play with your food. 🙂
