If you haven’t heard, Madagascar 3, Europe’s Most Wanted is in theaters now! Recently I had a chance to host a Madagascar movie viewing party in my home as part of the Children’s Claritin Mom Crew. We were given the Madagascar 1 & 2 DVDs as well as loads of party activities to try out and share with you!
I am sad to say, my camera actually died out right before this party (we ordered a new one – yay!), however, I wasn’t able to get pictures of some of the activities we had. The kids still had fun though, and I do have some great tips on party activities as well as a few recipes to share with you!
If you want to hold your own viewing party why not make a day of it! You could have party activities throughout the day, and then go see a matinee in the afternoon after all of the party fun has ended (or see the movie first then do the party stuff). Listed below are some ideas to make any viewing party a big hit!
ABOUT THE MOVIE:
Alex the Lion, Marty the Zebra, Gloria the Hippo, and Melman the Giraffe are still fighting to get home to their beloved Big Apple and of course, King Julien, Maurice and the Penguins are all along for their comedic adventure. Their journey takes them through Europe where they find the perfect cover: a traveling circus, which they reinvent – Madagascar style.
FUN PARTY IDEAS FOR YOUR OWN CIRCUS:
Have your kids just play around doing any of these things. You could even invite a guest judge like a grandparent or neighbor if you wanted to make a competition out of it.
- A tightrope walk on a piece of tape
- An animal walk
- Cartwheels
- Twirling a baton
- Pirouettes
- Jump or step through hula hoops
- Juggling
- Rolling, skipping, or leaping
CLOWN FACE BEAN BAG TOSS:
- You will need a large cardboard box and coloring supplies/decorations to create a clown face
- Have kids decorate the box to look like a clown face, cut out the eyes, nose, and mouth making wide holes
- Give the party guests beanbags or balls to try to throw through the holes in the clown face

FUN CIRCUS THEMED RECIPES!
Madagascar Munch Mix
- 5 cups corn or rice cereal
- 1 1/2 cups pretzels
- 1 cup chopped nuts (any variety or omit if allergies exist)
- 1/3 cup butter, melted
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 cup raisins or dried fruit
- 1 cup chocolate chips or candies
Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Combine cereal, pretzels and nuts in a 13x9x2 in baking pan. In a bowl, stir melted butter and salt together. Pour over cereal mixture, tossing gently until well coated. Bake at 325 degrees for 25 minutes, stirring once or twice. Spread in a large shallow pan or on foil to cool before mixing in remaining ingredients.
Big Top Nacho Station
- Tortilla chips
- Melted cheddar cheese
- Optional Toppings: Salsa, Sour Cream, Black Beans, Guacamole, Tomatoes
Assemble the chips, melt the cheese and let your party-goers do the rest!
Clown Cones
- Sugar Ice Cream Cones
- Ice Cream (any flavor)
- Assorted candies (jelly beans, gum drops, etc)
- Icing
Scoop out balls of ice cream and place on wax paper. Place in freezer 20-30 minutes (it may be a good idea to have this done ahead of time so when the kids are ready to go, the ice cream is already set). Remove from freezer and place on flattened baking cups. Place the cone on top. The cones are hats and the balls of ice cream are the faces. Use fun fixings such as the candy and icing to design the clown face and decorate the hat.
