With unemployment a huge concern for many families, hunger also becomes an issue.  More than 50 million Americans don’t know where their next meal will come from, but you can help!  Walmart is working with Feeding America, along with four national food brands (ConAgra, Kraft, General Mills, and Kellogg’s) to help bridge the hunger gap.

In a nationwide Fighting Hunger Together Initiative, consumers can join the fight against hunger, either in Walmart stores or on Facebook.  The event runs April 9th – 30th.  During this time Walmart will be hosting a Facebook campaign where you can rally support for communities in need.  200 communities have been selected that have the highest unemployment rates based on a Department of Labor report.  You can view the communities here:  http://bit.ly/H1yxFK

Walmart will donate $2 Million to the 21 communities receiving the most support!  $1 Million will go to the winning community, and $50,000 to each of the runners up.  The winning communities will be announced May 1st.

How can you help?

Visit:  http://bit.ly/H1yxFK and look through the communities with the highest unemployment rate.  These will be the communities you can vote for on Facebook.  I looked through the list and since I am from Wisconsin, I just have to support a community local to me.  I will be voting for Janesville, WI as I know they got hit hard by unemployment with the closing of GM facilities in their city.

Please make sure to Vote to fight spring hunger with Walmart between April 9-30th, and make sure to share with all your friends and have them vote as well!

You can also visit Walmart stores between April 9-30th to participate.  By purchasing certain products from ConAgra, General Mills, Kraft, and Kellogg’s, you can donate meals to Feeding America or Action for Healthy Kids, a nonprofit fighting hunger.  Check for in store signage and packaging to make a purchase and help make a difference!
