Five tips to gear up for an active lifestyle all year long

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Old Wisconsin® and Irish Spring® and Speed Stick® GEAR™ for IZEA. All opinions are 100% mine.

One of my family’s favorite activities in winter is to hit the slopes. My husband can take the kids to the tubing hill and pull them around for hours on end without getting worn out. This is one of the many reasons I love and appreciate him – he is always willing to experience life and get active with the kids.

Be prepared to face life head-on, fuel your body and be prepared!

Winter, summer, spring, or fall; face life head-on, fuel your body, and be ready for any challenge by being prepared!

When you live an active lifestyle, you need gear that helps you fuel up for optimal performance pre and post activity. When you love experiencing life, being the doer instead of the watcher, you know what it takes to gear up for everything life may throw your way. Here are a few simple tips to help you maintain energy, be prepared for whatever comes your way, and enjoy experiencing life!

  • Snack healthier before heading out by choosing whole-grain carbs, low-fat yogurt, fruits, or vegetables.
  • Stay hydrated. Be sure to bring along a water bottle to keep yourself from becoming dehydrated – even in winter this is essential!
  • Fuel Up: If you will be active for a lengthy period of time, be sure to keep some of protein filled turkey snack bites handy, as well as some great healthy carbs such as raisins, bananas, or apples.
  • GEAR UP™: Keep cool and fresh with body wash and a great deodorant like the Irish Spring and Speed Stick GEAR lines. While sweating is a good thing for your body, staying fresh is good for others around you.
  • After exertion be sure to refuel your body. Stick to proteins and healthy carbs, and of course keep drinking water to maintain hydration. Snack bites like the Old Wisconsin Turkey Bites are the perfect thing!

My husband and my son are super active, so I agree with making sure everyone stays fresh and dry. No stinky pits, please! Reply

I wouldn't call our lifestyle super active, however my husband is a total carnivore, so these turkey bites would be great for him to take to work with him. Thanks for sharing! Reply

It costs me nothing but my pair of sneakers to get out and jog, all year long. Hydration is key, as well a lean protein, tons of vegetable, & fresh fruit. And, of course, enough sleep. Reply

Admittedly, it is significantly easier to lead an active lifestyle while living in Phoenix. It does tend to stay warmer here in Arizona in the winter, but I do think that you offer some great tips that are relatable to anyone no matter where they live! Thank you so much for sharing! Reply

Well I tend to stay active since I am running after a toddler and cleaning up after kids. Now that the weather has cooled down here in FLA I am going to start working in the yard. Reply

Ugh, when Hubby decided to get 'healthy' and start working out the whole house smelled. HA! He stunk... This is a great post and you are so right, water is super-important, as well. Reply

The husband will go running even in the snow! I'm not that motivated. I try to eat better in the winter months and try to do more dance parties on the game systems. And on warmer days I'll go for a walk. But I agree, taking time to take care of our bodies even in the cold of winter is important. Reply

I need to get back into my exercise routine. I injured my back and started taking meds that have caused me to put on some weight. I have no energy and it's hard to get motivated. Reply

Keeping hydrated is so important. People don't realize how much water they really should be drinking even not being active. Reply
