When I opened our copy of Freaky Friday to play for movie night, I knew my daughter was going to love it. It has everything a young girl wants in a movie. Fun twists and turns, a drama-filled story, interesting problems at school (that get resolved), and a little magic to top it all off.

Freaky Friday isn’t just a remake of the same old story, it is full of fun musical numbers, interesting parent-child dilemmas that both kids and adults can relate to, and the good old body swap… which is done in a new way.

My daughter really enjoyed this movie (I couldn’t pull her away from watching) and when I asked her what her favorite part was, she said the musical number at the end. She is totally into musicals, so I can see why. 🙂

If you are looking for a fun family movie that everyone will enjoy, Freaky Friday is a great choice!

Synopsis

When a mother, Katherine, and daughter, Ellie, are at the most stressful of times, they can only imagine how the other’s problems could be more difficult. Thanks to the magic from their late father’s hourglass, their imagination becomes a reality when they switch bodies and see what it’s like to be the other person.

This Disney Channel Original Movie is the fifth iteration of “Freaky Friday,” but the first in telling the story through music on screen, with the musical numbers progressing the story as well as heightening the emotion of the actions of the story. Adding song and dance to the subtext of each scene, each character’s inner dialogue is emphasized and all the more relatable to the viewing audience. The story and the music gets a message across about empathy — and how the empathy we develop for our parents extends to the rest of the world.

You can watch Freaky Friday NOW on the Disney Channel, or stream from your favorite device.
