Last week I had the pleasure attending the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 World Premiere! This event was hosted by Disney (all expenses were paid in exchange for press coverage).

My reaction after seeing Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 at the red carpet premiere? All the feels! I was blown away by how good this movie was. You will laugh, you will cry, you will definitely want to see even more!

I dare to say, Vol. 2 was even better than Vol. 1!

Red Carpet Experience

If you have never been on a red carpet for a movie premiere, let me tell you — it is amazing! You see so many stars in one place, and sometimes you even get caught on camera as they are doing interviews — true story, I was on camera behind Sylvester Stalone as he was being interviewed!

Check right over Stalone’s left shoulder (our right) and you’ll see me in the black and white dress for quick blip starting at about second 18 in this clip.

Here are a few pictures of my walk down the red carpet….or I should say, purple carpet! Once inside the theater, you are not allowed cameras so I don’t have any pictures of the Dolby Theater to share, but outside is where all the action is anyway.

The purple carpet!

The crowd – it was jam packed!

Look at all those stars, Chris Pratt, Anna Faris, David Hasselhoff, Mario Lopez!

Me, striking a pose. 🙂

Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 Review

While I cannot (and won’t) give away any spoilers, I will say that you WILL be surprised by what happens. I was shocked at how everything played out, and I was in tears during parts of the movie. I am a person who doesn’t tear up often, so if I was tearing up, you know there was a reason!

One of the fun things in this movie is seeing a young Kurt Russell as he portrays Peter Quill’s dad (flashback scene). The graphics were great, and as you’ll learn in an upcoming interview post where we talked to Kurt Russell about that scene, there wasn’t a ton of CGI since his makeup artist did a great job.

Vol. 2 starts to look deeper into the heroes and their relationships, especially bringing forward more history behind each character to really give you a feel for why they are who they are. The Guardians don’t stick together for most of this film as they each get set on a different story path and they don’t reunite again until the end, but those story paths really build on each character individually.

One of my surprise favorite characters in this film was Drax. He was so funny and likable that he just had you busting out with laughter in just about every scene he is in.

While it would have been nice to see the whole group together to keep them more cohesive, I loved where everything ended up in the end. One of the best parts of watching this movie was noticing the reaction of those around me who are also die-hard fans of the comic series. They not only loved how the story played out but were also in awe at some of the hints of what is to come — they could not stop talking about it!

As someone who has never read the comics, a few of the scenes did go over my head when it came to understanding what they were foreshadowing, but after listening to the whole backstory from one of those fans mentioned above, the scenes totally made sense (you do not need to know the backstory, it just helps to understand a hint for the future movies).

Overall, Guardians of The Galaxy Vol. 2 is a bit of a departure from Vol. 1 by not keeping the team together, but I really enjoyed watching it and the awesomeness ensues!

How was the music?

The music in Vol. 1 was amazing and I was really hopeful for Vol. 2 to have the same reaction to the music, but I really didn’t. The only thing I wasn’t a huge fan in this film was the music selection. I would have preferred a few more upbeat songs that were a little more recognizable for those of us who didn’t live in the 70’s, but perhaps it is just me as I am not a huge fan of 70’s music to begin with, and many other people did seem to enjoy the soundtrack.

It should be noted that I do currently have one of the songs stuck in my head, so it is good music, just not 100% my taste. 🙂

Is It Safe For Kids

Here’s the thing, you know your kids best and know what they can handle.

Is there fighting, yes – but nothing I’d consider over the top (people do die, but nothing is gory).

Is there language, yes – but I expose my kids to bad language myself and they haven’t been traumatized yet.

Is there nudity, not that I recall.

Here’s my take. My 10yr old and 7yr old would love this movie and there isn’t really anything that I would restrict them from seeing (I’m a pretty open parent, and while I know my kids are going to be exposed to certain things, we do discuss and they know appropriate behavior and use of language). My 3yr old, yeah she won’t be seeing it since I know she’d be scared.

All said and done, you should definitely go see this movie. It opens May 5th everywhere and you don’t want to miss it!

While I cannot share much about what actually happens in the movie, here are a few shots from some of my favorite scenes just to give you a bit of a teaser. 🙂
