If you are like me, finding motivation can be like a rollercoaster. One day I’m ready to deep clean my entire house; the next day, I am binging TV shows the entire day. The same can hold for setting workout goals. I’ve told myself so many times that I’m going to do yoga every day or that I’m not going to eat all those chips before bed. Remove Temptation – If you have sweets like cookies, cakes, and candy just sitting there staring at you, what do you think you are more likely to do? Grab a piece of fruit or a vegetable, or eat the good stuff? I know personally, I’m gonna grab a cookie. But if you remove those temptations from your reach, you’ll have no choice but to grab a healthier option. In comparison, it may feel hard at first (been there, done that), eventually you will get used to reaching for a carrot stick when you feel like nibbling.
Surround Yourself With Joy – The people you hang out with can certainly have a big impact on your mood, temperament, and overall goals. When I am around a certain group of friends, I always come away from our meetups inspired. Inspired to get outdoors more, learn more, and be a better person. On the other hand, I have a few friends who always make me feel deflated after our visits. Choose wisely.
Be Ready For Change – Try changing up your routine. If you always drive/bike/walk to work one way, try another path. Take a workout class you’ve always wanted to. I know stepping out of your comfort zone can be hard, especially for someone like myself who has crippling anxiety over trying new things. Still, I always feel great once I’ve finally taken that leap and made myself do something new because I usually love it! I’ve found that I really love hiking with my kids, but I wouldn’t have known if I hadn’t gone ahead and tried it.
