When you have a show as epic as Scandal, the ending must be equally epic. How do you culminate seven seasons of twists and turns and… scandals into one mind-blowing, season-ending episode?

Well, when we discussed the final season of Scandal with star Bellamy Young (Mellie Grant), she had some opinions on the matter.

First, it’s clear she absolutely loves working on this show. She loves her castmates, she loves the interesting storylines…which the cast never finds out in advance, by the way.

She loves going over lines for the first time at table reads and being completely surprised by what is going to happen. And she loves being able to work.

“Our table reads are like keggers. They are literally crazy. You watch on Thursday night, that’s when we watch it. We don’t know anything that’s going to happen.

I’m going to have a table read Thursday for the last ever episode of Scandal, which is awful. I have no idea how the show is going to end. I cannot see what is coming, I have no idea.

We get a lot of rewrites, sometimes handed to you at rehearsal, and you’re just like “okay, yeah, yeah”. So sometimes people live that died and things change dramatically. Whole storylines get lifted and maybe they don’t come back, or they come back three episodes later. It’s just usually all different.

We spend a lot of time in rehearsals going, “Now when was the last time I was with you? Did the part air when I shot the gun at you? Did that air?”

We always have a writer on set, and they’re always really good to be the archive of what has aired.”

How is Scandal going to end? We don’t know. Bellamy doesn’t know. And it doesn’t sound like anyone is going to know until that final table read. The one full of emotions and good-byes.

It is such a feel-fest over at work right now. I’m going to miss these people so much. ~Bellamy Young

So how should Scandal end? If you ask Bellamy Young, which we did, she’d tell you that the whole cast and crew has been pushing for a Scandal movie, so she definitely does not want the characters to die. She wants the possibility to be there, even down the road, for a very ‘Scandalous’ movie to be made.

A Scandal Movie?

If you ask me, I’m with Bellamy on the movie idea, however, I don’t think it is a fit right now. I think a movie should be a few years down the road when we are all jonesing for a little more Olivia Pope and Associates.

So how should Scandal end? I’d love to see Huck find some happiness, and Jake and Olivia together (I know that won’t happen even though I think they were a better couple than Olivia and Fitz). I’d maybe be okay with a White House wedding for Mellie, but I don’t think she’d be able to give enough of herself to a lasting relationship.

What would be really great, though, would be to see glimpses of an up and coming candidate. A rising star. Something that could leave the door open to bringing Scandal back when fans start going crazy asking to #BringBackScandal (see what I did there?). 😊
