Review:

Listening is often something my daughters struggle with at our house, especially my four year old. So I was excited for the opportunity to read and review “Howard B. Wigglebottom Learns to Listen” with both of them. The name of the character – Howard B. Wigglebottom – was so funny, it instantly grabbed
their attention.

The illustrations are very cute, while the story is very simple and an easy read. The simplicity of the story makes it one that my kids wanted to read over and over – all while teaching them an invaluable lesson.  Both of my daughters asked me to read it several times the first night we got it.

What I really liked about this book was the included listening discussion questions at the back of the book. It really encouraged me to ask questions while reading the book. It engaged a great conversation with my four year old on how she can improve her listening skills. My daughter enjoyed this book so much she brought it into her daycare to have her teacher read it to her class.

Every now and then when she is not listening to me, I will say – “Are you being a good listener like Howard B. Wigglebottom?” She will smile at me, and she usually does improve her listening after that.  Any book that my kids love, yet can teach them something, is always a winner by me. This book is definitely one of those.
