How To Keep Pesky Deer Away From Your Plants!

Do you love gardening or growing a flower bed, but hate pesky deer coming around and nibbling off all your beautiful flowers and leaves?  Me too!  That is why I have decided to share with you an easy way to get those deer to stay away from your plants!

This is a family recipe that I got from my mother and she swears by it.  She always uses it and has no problems with deer coming around and eating off her plants anymore.  It is called Deer Away, and it is a very simple recipe using ingredients that you already have in your home.  Once you’ve mixed up a batch, just simply spray on your plants and you no longer have to worry!

  • 1 EGG
  • 1/2 CUP MILK
Beat egg and milk together, then add cooking oil and detergent. Add mixture to water and stir or shake well. Store in a covered 1 Gallon container.
Apply liquid to plants (EXCEPT FOOD PLANTS) using a spray jug or bottle (I use a one gallon spray jug).
Reapply every 2 weeks or after heavy rains.

Christa someone on my facebook page mentioned using equal parts hot sauce and water. I don't know if it works, but worth a try! Reply

Never tried this, but I have heard that marigolds grown around the bed would deter those bothersome guests. Thanks for the tip! Reply

Great tip! I have more of a problem with javelin and coyotes. Think it might work for them? Great info though, I will be sharing this with friends. Reply

I have no idea if it would work for them, lol. My mom uses this every year for her deer. We actually haven't had that big of a problem with them lately, but she always does. Reply

I never had this issue until recently. I finally caved and do container gardening on my patio though because I love to watch the deer I do plant some veggies for them and put them outside. If I didn't do this, they would skip our house and they are so beautiful and neat for the kids to watch. When we move though I will probably use this as I want a bigger garden! Reply

I'll have to remember this. When I was growing up the deer would come and chew our Christmas lights off of our fence. Reply

Go to your local beauty shop and ask for a bagful of hair clippings and spread them around your garden. The deer don't like the human scent and will not bother your garden. Reply
