Having kids is such a joyful and rewarding experience that often times we moms completely forget about the other ‘stuff’ that happens to our bodies both during and after our pregnancy. You know, the stuff no one likes to tell you about before you get pregnant! Today I’m going to change that and talk about some of the not so pretty aspects of pregnancy and being a mom.

Bodily Changes During Pregnancy

During pregnancy a lot of changes happen and our bodies don’t always get the best treatment. We suffer not only from things such as nausea, memory loss, and heartburn; but also physical things like stretch marks, weight gain, and even…hemorrhoids! Yep, I said it… the not so fun stuff no one ever likes to talk about, but probably happens to a large portion of moms out there!

After pregnancy we still have all the same issues to deal with, plus now we add in sleepless nights, breast soreness, back pain, constipation, and more (all of which can also occur during your pregnancy).

Don’t worry, I’m not here to scare anyone away from getting pregnant or becoming a new parent. I mean let’s face it, women have been going through these changes and dealing with all of these problems for centuries, and the reward of having a beautiful new baby in your arms outweighs all of the suffering we put our bodies through. Which is why after your beautiful little bundle is born, we usually forget all about the bad stuff we had to ordeal to begin with.

So…what can we do to ease some of our suffering?

Easing Pregnancy Symptoms

To be honest, there isn’t always a lot you can do for some of the symptoms. Unless you are willing to put a bunch of medication into your body, and potentially your baby, relief from nausea might not come until about the 2nd trimester. I chewed ginger gum, and ate ginger candy until the cows came home, but I still suffered quite a bit of queasiness throughout the day regardless. Taking an anti-nausea medication was just not in the cards for me so I just suffered through.

Weight gain can be controlled by remembering not to over-eat. Yes you have a growing baby, but you really don’t need that many more calories, so don’t take pregnancy as free reign to eat whatever you want. In fact, now would be a good time to make sure you are eating properly and getting all the nutrition you and your baby both need!

So let’s talk about one thing we can do. Our bums go through a lot, and anyone who has ever had kids knows that sometimes there are just some things that happen to your body that you really cannot control….like hemorrhoids. I got them with my first child and have them again this time around. For anyone who has had hemorrhoids, you know how uncomfortable this can make things.

cottonelleTo get relief, first off you can soak in a warm bath (advised by my doctor) and then use a hemorrhoid cream to reduce them in size (check with your medical provider first). They won’t go away doing this, but it will help.

This still leaves the issue of going to the bathroom. Scratchy toilet paper isn’t helping the issue as it may just irritate the tissue more, so using something a little more comforting is a good idea. Incorporating cleansing cloths into your bathroom routine may feel weird at first but ultimately, it’s a clean and fresh feeling that leaves you ready for anything and doesn’t irritate your bum more than it already is!

Cottonelle Flushable Cleansing Cloths are now available in a sleek, newly designed, upright dispenser – making it easier for everyone to enjoy the clean and fresh feeling of the Cottonelle Care Routine.

So…  What weirds you out about most wipes? You aren’t opposed to using wet towelettes on your hands after a meal, so why use only toilet paper on your bum after you go?
