Have you ever been to Palm Springs? Until recently, I hadn’t and the first thing I thought when I heard where we’d be staying for the A Girl’s Guide To Cars conference was — “hmm, the desert, I’m not sure I’m going to like the hot weather”.
What I didn’t realize was how temperate this area is in terms of climate. While we were there, the weather was unseasonably cool during the day (mid-70’s) and cold enough for me to need a jacket at night (low to mid-40’s), and I was quite surprised at how beautiful the area was.

Miramonte Resort – Indian Wells
I was especially surprised at how nice the resort was that we stayed at. The Miramonte Resort in Indian Wells, California, is a curio hotel that is part of the Hilton line of resort properties. The curio line still has all of the hospitality and high standards you’d expect from a Hilton, but it retains the local charm and flair that makes the area unique.
For the Miramonte, some of those traits include the signature citrus trees that are sprinkled throughout the property, the herb garden in one of the courtyards that is used by the chef at the Citrus and Palms restaurant, the open firepits surrounded by chairs to relax at, and more.
They even have a large conference area that would be the perfect backdrop to host a variety of events, including a wedding. The wedding could start outside right in the beautiful greens, then head indoors for the reception.
A Tour Through The Miramonte
Upon checking into the Miramonte you are greeted with a very welcoming reception that includes a glass of wine to get you right into relaxation mode. The backdrop to this oasis is the mountains that make up much of the area.
The rooms are all in separate little mini-villas I guess you could call them, and the entire grounds is perfectly manicured with outdoor gas fireplaces everywhere — you know, for this nights when it does get chilly. The fireplaces were one of my favorite features of the resort.
When arrived at my room I grabbed my glass of wine and began to relax out on the open courtyard behind my room with a couple other conference attendees who were waiting for their rooms to be ready.
The room was very spacious, with a king size bed, ample sitting room, desk, a full bathroom as well as a vanity area to apply makeup in the mornings.
My favorite part, though, was the private patio where I could sip some morning coffee or wander outside and grab an orange right off the tree — and yes, they do let you pick them if they are ripe!
After relaxing from our two-hour drive over from L.A. in the VW Passat that we had on loan, I took a tour of the property. There is a full-service spa at the Miramonte Indian Wells Resort. While it isn’t the biggest spa I’ve ever seen, it has all the amenities you could want. With a saltwater pool, massage services, and even a private area to eat your lunch away from the hustle and bustle of the rest of the resort.
I also enjoyed a few meals at the restaurant, Citrus & Palm, during my stay. The food was really good and the only problem we had was that everyone at our table wanted even more! The portions were generous and we had several courses, including dessert but we were a hungry bunch and we sure didn’t leave anything for leftovers.
Overall my stay at the Miramonte Resort was great. I slept well, which is important, and the room was so spacious I’m sure that I could have brought my kids with me and still had enough room to move around — not that I’d necessarily bring them with to such a relaxing place as this — but I could!
