NESCO FOOD DEHYDRATOR REVIEW

I received the  FD-60 Nesco Food Dehydrator for review, and my husband and I have been using it almost non-stop! We have dehydrated apples (which don’t last long around me by the way), carrots, bananas, and even fruit leather.

I just love snacking on my dried apples; plus it is a much healthier alternative than grabbing a candy bar or some other treat. This is something that will truly be an asset to any home!

The first thing we tried to dehydrate when we got our dehydrator was apples. I love dried fruit, especially apples, and we always have an abundance of them each year from our family orchard.

The first thing we did was grab a few that were nice and ripe, and give them a quick wash.

Next we had to prepare them for going into the dehydrator.  My husband has become quite the pro at this, and he has a nice method down. We actually have one of those old fashioned hand crank corer, peeler, slicer tools that works great for this! The handle actually broke off of ours, so my husband just uses a vice grip to turn it and it works out great!
After preparing the apples, we put them in and set the correct temperature. Then we waited. Since it could take quite a few hours, we set it to run when we went to bed, and then we when got up in the morning our apples were perfectly dried!
Here they are ready to be removed and packaged up (if I don’t just eat them all first!).
Here they are all nice and packed up in some air tight containers.  These will fit perfectly well in my purse for an on-the-go snack!
Overall I have to say our dehydrator is great. So far, everything we have done has turned out really well. There was one instance where my husband got a little overzealous with the fruit leather, and added way too much apple. It didn’t exactly dry out into a leathery snack, but it still tasted good and I ate it nonetheless!

As long as you follow the directions indicated, this dehydrator from Nesco works out great. We have not tried any jerky yet, but it does come with some seasonings so I’m excited to try that out next!

If you are looking to purchase your own dehydrator, or even give one as a gift (these would make a great gift for the holidays!), you can find this model and more at the Nesco site here: NESCO

This particular one retails for $69.99, and is on sale right now for $64.99. It comes with four trays, the fruit leather tray, and some seasoning to try out making Jerky.
