Picking The Right Hotel For Your Getaway – With Or Without The Kids

Staybridge Suites helped make our stay happen, any opinions are my own.

long live weekends

My family and I love to take little jaunts around the state to explore what is right in our backyard. I also really appreciate any one-on-one time I can get with my husband because as many parents know, alone time or even just quiet time is seldom found and dearly cherished.

Staybridge Suites has been key in helping me accomplish both – my getaways with the whole crew as well as special trips for just my husband and I!

When You Need a Relaxing Getaway for Two

My husband and I recently took a trip and stayed at a Staybridge Suites in Memphis. It was such a nice and relaxing little getaway for us and allowed us to kickback, recharge, and connect – something I think all couples should do for themselves once in a while!

What was great was that we had a room we could retire to, and an area to make ourselves a nice meal so we could spend the time relaxing and not running around town at night. The pool was an added bonus and you could see all the families were having an amazing time splashing around!

Since my husband and I are pretty into food, the best part for us is always breakfast. We love to see if the breakfast offered at hotels will measure up to our expectations, and the one in Memphis was amazing. They had my favorite, biscuits and gravy, and healthy options for my husband who loves to eat healthy even when out of town.

Pantry Collage

When we were ready to head out for the day we grabbed a few snacks from the fully stocked pantry. There were quick, simple snacks available that we could take along with us while we explored so we didn’t have to stop whenever hunger hit. We could keep on keeping on!

A Place for the Whole Family

Home Away From Home

While I am a traveler by nature, sometimes heading across the country with little ones is just not an option, or in the budget. But there are fun little trips we can take that can work with our budget, even when spontaneous. I love when we have a free weekend and decide, “Hey, let’s drive down to Madison (WI) and go to the zoo or the children’s museum.” I have found that the right hotel will make these trips – planned or not – even more fun for you.

Some of our favorite things to do can require a day trip to a state park or nature center, and those destinations can be just a tad too far to make it there and back in one day. This is when we look for a great, extended stay hotel that will make a comfortable “home away from home” for our little family.

With three kids and one on the way, a small hotel room is often very cramped and not much fun to be in. When we travel with the kids we love having ample room for everyone to move around, and a place to cook our own meals so we don’t have to eat out. One of our favorite places to stay that offers all of this and more is Staybridge Suites.

Whether you are looking for a weekend getaway for the family or a relaxing “home away from home” atmosphere, Staybridge Suites’ one and two bedroom suites make it so easy to get comfortable for a night, a weekend, or even longer if we want. The bedrooms are nice because you actually have a living space with plenty of room to move. It really is more like an upscale condo that you are renting for the weekend.

Some of the best features include:

  • Fully equipped kitchen
  • Full-size refrigerator with ice maker
  • Microwave oven
  • Cooktop stove
  • Toaster and coffee maker
  • Dishwasher

Inside Suite

  • Iron and ironing board
  • Free high-speed Internet access
  • Large, well-lit workspace
  • Flexible storage areas

Having a fully equipped kitchen is great because when we are out and about exploring the area, it is nice to be able to come back to our room, pop in a movie for the kids and whip up a quick meal that doesn’t cost us a lot.

When you are ready to leave the room and explore, the hotel staff can give you some great insider advice as to what attractions are worthwhile. Also, Staybridge Suites has a great section on their site that gives you ideas of what to do in the area.

So when traveling with your loved one or loved ones, check to see what local Staybridge Suites are around your travel destination!

So tell us…

When is the last time you took a spontaneous vacation?
What are your favorite things to do in your area?

This hotel sounds awesome! It's always such a plus to have access to your own kitchen/fridge when you're traveling with little kids. I love that you and your husband make time to have little getaways, there's nothing like keeping your foundation strong! I'll have to see if there are any of these hotels here in California! :) Reply

Before the Baby we have taken a few road trips up north and booked rooms along the way. After we drove straight to New York from GA and spent a few days walking around there we wanted to find a great room in DC to relax in. It was so nice. Reply

Picking the right hotel can sometimes be tricky! But with heaps of travel and review sites and photos, as least we can be informed before we go and book! Reply

I agree that we should spend some time alone with our spouses. Having a date/weekend vacation with your spouse is something we usually give up once we start raising a family. A kid-free vacation is what we need once in a while. Reply

We don't go to hotels often, but when we do I like ones that have complimentary breakfast and all the amenities like home. The kids just want a pool! Reply
