Sending the Kids to Summer Camp

One of my favorite movies as a kid was The Parent Trap, with Lindsey Lohan.  Watching it reminds me of something I think about now that I have my own kids.  I always wondered what it would have been like to be able to go off to summer camp for a few months and do all the fun activities and meet new friends.  I never had this opportunity when I was a kid, so I would love to be able to give this chance to my kids!

I have started looking for summer camps and I found one that I think looks like it could be really fun, Camp Chateaugay.  They have this Big Brother/Big Sister program to help new or young campers adapt and help establish friendships.  They also have a teen program for older campers so teens can do activities designed just for them.

This camp is quite a distance from where we live, but that may be a good thing. I want my kids to get out and explore the world and perhaps summer camp that is not right in our backdoor is a great way to do that!

Hi there! I'm Caroline, a 5 year camper at Camp Chateaugay. Chateaugay is an amazing choice for your kids. It truly is the best place on earth. I would be a completely different person without the experiences and new family Chateaugay has given me. I just finished Wilderness, my final summer at camp. It was absolutely incredible. Even the most challenging, worst moments of the summer, I wouldn't trade for the world. The people I met at Chateaugay became my family, the grounds became a second home. The big/little program is a great way for young campers to get acclimated, but the staff-especially the counselors- are so sweet and welcoming that it's hardly necessary! If you have any questions about the camp, feel free to email me! It's The owner, Dov (Bear) Shapiro, will also come to your house and tell you about the camp if you are so inclined. Bear was one of the main reasons I initially chose Chateaugay, and it was the best decision I ever made. Reply
