When a woman becomes pregnant her entire life changes for the better; a baby can make a woman’s life more exciting, more challenging and more fun on a daily basis. Even though it is an exciting time in a woman’s life, pregnancy is the perfect time to prepare for the new baby she is bringing into the world before the baby actually arrives. Going into labor knowing that her baby’s room is ready and that she is prepared for labor makes it so much easier for moms everywhere.
One of the first things a woman should do as she approaches her delivery date to prepare for her new baby is to pack her hospital bag with comfortable clothing, nursing bras and clothing for her new baby. A woman’s doctor will provide her with a list of suggested items to pack and she is free to pack whatever else she deems important. Having her bags packed and ready relieves the stress of having to pack in between contractions when labor is in full force. Additionally, having the baby’s nursery prepared, the baby’s clothes clean and the baby’s FDA approved infant car seat installed correctly in her car will ease mom’s mind when she finally goes into labor.
The day labor begins is the most important day of a woman’s life. There are a number of things a pregnant woman needs to do the day she goes into labor. The first is to simply relax. Relaxing helps the onset of labor progress more comfortably. Additionally, mom needs to start closely monitoring her contractions so she knows when to call the doctor and when to leave for the hospital. Most doctors ask that their patients keep detailed notes regarding their contractions. Each note should say when the contraction began, how long it lasted, what the pain level was like on a scale of one to 10 and how much time lasted between contractions. Doctors need to know this information when a pregnant woman calls to say she is in labor.
Going into the delivery room, a mother will feel more comfortable if she knows what to expect. Taking a childbirth class ahead of time is the way to learn about what will be happening to your body and your baby during labor. When it comes to managing pain, a childbirth class is where mom will learn about natural and medicated ways to help during labor. Childbirth classes are also a great way to learn about optional procedures like circumcision and cord blood banking. Cord blood banking is where cord blood is collected to be used in the future to treat illnesses that could potentially affect a family.
With all of these preparations made, a mom can breeze into the delivery room relaxed and ready for the joys of motherhood.
