When I was young I used to love playing games. Board games, card games, anything where there was a little competition and a little fun involved. As a parent, I have tried to instill my love of games upon my children. I feel like it is something we can do as a family, while at the same time enjoy a little competitive fun, lol.
We have some favorites, but I like to continue to introduce the kids to new games we can all enjoy together. Recently, I had the opportunity to have them try playing the game Spot it! by Blue Orange games. I was a little nervous because my son can be a little overly competitive sometimes, and is at the stage where losing is really really hard (as I’m sure it is for any five year old, lol).
The idea of this game is to match an item from your card to an item on the card in the deck. If you match, you keep the card and do it again.
There is always one, and only one, matching symbol between any 2 cards in this party game.
Spot it and you win!
A sharp eye and a little bit of speed is all it takes to become a Spot it! master.
The day we tried the game for the first time I told the kids I had a new game we were going to play. I explained the rules and showed the kids what the cards looked like, and then helped them figure out what they were supposed to do. Here they are all ready for me to say go! Even their kidiminiz got in on the action, lol.
Instead of playing with them, I figured it might be easier if I stood by as a type of moderator, and help them if necessary. This worked out really well because although my three year old could match up items on the cards, she would lose focus after a bit and I’d have to remind her to look for matches. Or, if she was having a hard time finding something I could help give her clues.
Here is my Austin searching for a match; Bella is looking at her card but I always have to remind her to put it close to the deck so she can easily see if anything matches.
You can take a look at them playing the game in this video; it is a little dark as the lighting in our living room isn’t the best, but you can see the cards and get the idea of how much fun they were having!
Both of my kids had an amazing time playing this game, and you can really see the fun and competitiveness that the game brings out. They were so excited every time they found a matching pair, and really excited to see how many cards they had in the end.
The other unexpected bonus to this game was that my son, who is learning about math in kindergarten, would then take all of his cards that he matched and count them to see what he had. I would help his sister count and then he would tell me who had more. He didn’t even get mad if he didn’t have as many because he was having fun matching and counting!
If you are looking for a fun stocking stuffer for your kids this year, I would highly recommend this game. We have fun every time we play it, and kids of all ages are sure to enjoy this fun speed matching game!
Spot it! retails for $12.99. If you would like to get Spot it! for yourself, you can visit their online store here, or check out their website for a list of resellers in your area! Don’t forget to find them on facebook for special contests and deals!
