I just love finding new learning tools for my kids. Perhaps it is the educator in me, but I really like toys that double as learning tools, and if I can find something that will help my kids advance just a little bit, I of course am ready to give it a try! So when I heard about the Teach My Preschooler kit, I was instantly intrigued.
I thought, not only could this kit help my three year old daughter develop her reading skills, but it could also help my five year old son further his at the same time. Obviously they are at different levels, but I’ve have learned through all of my years of schooling and teaching that the best way to learn something, is to teach it! If I can get my son to help out with his sister, he will be enhancing his own skills at the same time she is learning new things. A win-win!
My son was surprisingly very eager to help his sister out, and it was really cute to watch him try to “teach” her different numbers and letters. This kit is super fun for the kids, and it really is learning disguised as play. We have been keeping the kit in the living room, and my daughter will ask me if we can play “that game” because she likes it so much!
I had a chance to try it out with my daughter on several occasions, and one day we got it out and were just “playing” around a bit, having some fun with it.
There are four learning packets that come in the kit, and she is always eager to try each and every one of them. She even has to make sure to pick them out herself each time.
Here she is with the Ready to Print kit. It comes with the magnetic erase board, and several plastic writing tools that you simply place on top of the board, write over, and then lift to see your results.
I did the A on the left to show my daughter how to do the tracing, and then she took a turn at it. It took her a little bit to get the hang of it, but she really enjoyed seeing the results after she picked up the card!
Here she is matching up numbers and faces on the math board. She doesn’t really get the concept of math quite yet, but the number matching is at least a great start for her!
She also very much enjoyed using the foam numbers and matching them up in the number book. I tried to place them out of order in front of her so she had all the numbers available that she needed, but she really had to look at see which one was the correct number. We also said what each number was as she placed it.
One of her favorite things to do was use this poster and match up the faces. I would have her count how many faces were there after she placed them.
Then she had fun sending them all down the slides! She really loved doing this!
Here is my daughter in a cute little video showing us how her people go down the slides, and I took the opportunity to have her do a little math without her even knowing it.
The last thing we did this day was the number train. Both kids have tons of fun building their trains. So far we have been making a train up to the number 10, but the train goes all the way up to 100! My son has done up to about 30 so far, but then our train ran out of room.
I don’t have all the items in the kit pictured here, but the full kit includes:
- 10 Readers
- 60 Flashcards
- 1 Flashcard Reward Tin
- 1 Flashcard Holder
- 1 Magic Drawing Board
- 78 Print Transparencies & Printing Guide
- 101 Train Flashcards
- 3 Posters
- 2 Flip-Books
- Foam Numbers, Counters and Equation Signs
- Teaching Guide
- Storage case
WHAT DOES THE MOMMY BUNCH THINK?
I love this kit! It has just the right amount of learning, mixed with fun. Perfect for my little three year old who can be a little spitfire at times. It keeps her engaged, while the whole time she just thinks she is just playing and having fun! This is honestly a must have for any homeschoolers arsenal. Or, if you are like me and do not homeschool, it is a must have as a supplement to get your kids ready for school or just to enhance their learning.
Grandparents—> Looking for a great gift to give the little grandkids this year? This would be an amazing gift that not only will the kids love, but parents will appreciate! I highly recommend this kit as a Holiday Gift for every household with preschoolers! Don’t have a preschooler to get a gift for? Teach My also has Teach My Toddler, and Teach My Baby kits!
