As an Amazon Echo owner, I love having a voice-activated speaker in my house. I can ask for the weather, turn my living room lights off, and my kids love playing their favorite songs over and over again. We love our Amazon devices so much that we even got the kid version of the dots for each of my kids’ bedrooms so they could request their favorite bedtime stories, set their own alarms for the morning, and more.

While the perks of having a ‘smart’ speaker are pretty good overall, there are some drawbacks. Like Alexa not ‘listening’ perfectly all the time, not being able to look up things quickly when I want to search something on the internet (she says she is still learning), and the sound quality for playing music really isn’t the greatest, especially on the dot devices.

So when I was asked to try out the Polk Command Bar, I of course was very interested. Not only are sound bars designed to crank up the volume to cinema levels for crisp sound while playing music or watching a movie, but with the Command Bar with Alexa built in, it can still hear you say “Alexa” without having to shout.

Polk Command Bar Review

The Polk has the features to do pretty much everything you need a smart soundbar to do, including two HDMI inputs and the ability to switch between them with a voice command. The sound coming out of the bar is amazing as well. We’ve never had great sound in our family room and honestly, I didn’t know what I was missing until the moment I turned this thing on.

Features I love about the Polk Command Bar

  • It fits seamlessly along most HDTVs for a streamlined look and is low enough to not block your TV.
  • Included wireless subwoofer and Dolby/DTS surround sound offer a room-filling theater experience.
  • Two HDMI ports make it easy to connect your favorite devices.
  • Built-in USB port powers the original and 4K versions of Fire TV, which can be controlled by the sound bar with your voice.
  • Remote has dedicated Alexa button so if you really have the sound cranked up, the bar will pause to listen to you.

The only thing I don’t like about the bar so far is that it doesn’t yet have multiroom music capability, and it isn’t really a full Echo or Dot device. When I’ve tried to use it to ‘drop in’ on other devices in my home it tells me that feature is not supported on this device (yet). I do hope with upgrades we will be able to use all of the Amazon features with this device to make it even better than it already is.

Overall we are really happy with this soundbar and I can’t imagine watching my favorite shows and movies without it.
