The Ultimate Family Movie Night that Any Family Can Do!

I am a HUGE movie buff, and subsequently, so are my kids. We love sitting down to watch a good movie, but sometimes we like to have a little more fun with it then just pushing play. When I found out the release date of the Guardians of the Galaxy Blu-ray, a movie we have been dying to see, I knew we were going to be ready to #OwnTheGalaxy and have a ton of fun with this movie!

#OwnTheGalaxy Battle Gear

Before we can sit down to watch a movie of such epic proportions, some proper gear is required. Of course we have to have our Star-Lord gear (one for each kid, we can’t have different ones or we may really have an epic battle – moms, you know what I mean!).

Guardians #OwnTheGalaxy

There was so much fun stuff at Walmart when I went to check out what to get, but the Star-Lord battle gear beat out everything else. Everyone knows it is so much fun to dress up and get in character so we had to have it!

While in the store, I also noticed that if you purchase Groot, Drax, or Rocket Raccoon figures for Disney Infinity 2.0 between 12/7 – 12/13 you will instantly get a $5.00 Walmart gift card! I’m pretty sure my kids are wishing we had Disney Infinity right about now because after playing with it in the store we were hooked!

Building the ultimate family movie night!

Once we had our supplies, the kids were super excited to make their mock spaceships. It really turned out to be more of a cockpit than a spaceship, but we had so much fun that the end product didn’t really matter. Everyone loved how their own little private viewing cockpit turned out, and then we had a great time watching Guardians of the Galaxy – in full gear of course! Here is what we did….

First, find some large cardboard boxes that can be used as your spaceships, or as ours turned out – cockpits. Then start decorating with some fun Guardians of the Galaxy printables.

#OwnTheGalaxy Spaceship Decorate

While you are getting your awesome space-craft ready for ultimate movie viewing, sometimes you need to watch out for bad guys like Ronan the Accuser – or Allison the Destroyer..either way.

#OwnTheGalaxy Ronan the Accuser

Warding off evil-doers is easier, however, when you are in full battle gear!

After your spaceship is ready for take-off, you will have your own private viewing area of the galaxy! Don your gear and settle in for a great show!

As you can see, you don’t need to be a creative genius to have a little extra fun. Just give kids a cardboard box and let their imagination do the rest! If you’d like to download any of the printables we used in our fun project, you can find them here: Guardians of the Galaxy Printables

So tell us…

The Guardians of the Galaxy Blu-Ray/DVD released on December 9, do you own it yet?

Do you do anything to make movie night extra fun?

We do not own it yet. But I am sure we will as my hubby and son love these kinds of movies. I tend to like the scary movies more, myself! Love your kids spaceships! So creative! Reply

That's definitely a unique family movie night! I think it would help the kids get more into the movie, getting to build and pretend. Reply

My son loves getting dressed up and playing in a box and he almost always makes a spaceship. I guess I'll be picking up the Star Lord costume very soon! #client Reply
