There’s nothing quite like working on a project with your kids. Not only do you get to spend some quality time together, but you also get to see the fruits of your labor. And what could be more rewarding than that? If you’re looking for some fun DIY projects to do with your kids, look no further. Here are six ideas that are sure to be a hit.
1. Plant a Garden
Spring is the perfect time to get outside and plant a garden with your kids. This is a great activity for teaching them about patience, as it can take weeks or even months to see results. Plus, they’ll love being able to watch their hard work pay off (literally) when the fruits and vegetables start growing.
Start by finding a sunny spot in your yard, then help your kids pick out some seeds or seedlings from the nursery. Prepare the soil together, then let them take charge of planting and watering the plants. Be sure to give them plenty of praise along the way.
2. Make a Birdfeeder
Making a bird feeder is a fun and easy project that kids of all ages will enjoy. You can use various materials like an old milk carton or soda bottle. Simply cut a hole in the side, then help your child decorate it with paint, stickers, and other embellishments. Once dry, fill it with birdseed and hang it up in your yard. You’ll be able to watch the birds come and go all day long.
This is a great activity for teaching kids about different types of birds and the importance of taking care of our feathered friends. If you’re looking for a more challenging project, you can try making a squirrel feeder instead. Just hang it high enough that the little critters can’t reach it.
3. Repaint Their Room
Does your child seem to be outgrowing their current bedroom decor? If so, it might be time for a makeover. This is a great opportunity to involve them in the design process and let them express their creativity.
Start by helping them choose a new color scheme, then let them help you with the painting. If they’re old enough, you can even let them do it all on their own. Once the walls are painted, you can move on to other wall decals or stenciling projects. Just be sure to supervise younger children so they don’t make too much of a mess.
Remember, in general, a typical home takes four days to paint. This includes time for prep work, painting, and cleanup. So, if you’re planning on repainting your child’s room yourself, be sure to schedule accordingly.
4. Home Made Jewelry
Making jewelry is a great activity for kids of all ages, and it’s a perfect way to use up those odds and ends that you have laying around the house. For example, you can turn old buttons into beautiful bracelets or necklaces. Or, if you have some spare yarn, you can help your child make a colorful friendship bracelet.
You could also try making a ring. This might be a little more challenging, but it’s definitely doable with some patience and the right tools. But remember, when it comes to rings, sizing is everything. If you try on a ring and the band swivels 360 degrees without effort when you move your hand, it’s likely too large. On the other hand, if you can’t get the ring over your knuckle, it’s probably too small. So, ensure you get the sizes right.
5. Get Crafty With Paper
There are endless possibilities for papercrafts, so this is a great activity to do with your kids if you’re looking for something that can be tailored to their interests. For example, if they’re into animals, you can help them make a paper plate lion or a paper bag monkey. You can help them make a paper plate racecar or a toilet paper roll train if they’re into cars.
The options are endless, so let your child’s imagination be your guide. Alternatively, you could look for more tips on Google. In any case, most online experiences (68%) begin with a search engine.
These are just a few of the many great DIY projects that you can do with your kids. So, get creative and have fun. And if you’re ever stuck for ideas, remember that you can always find inspiration online.
