I have to be honest, I’m not much of a gardener when it comes to growing my own vegetables.  I have awesome flower beds around my house, but vegetables aren’t really my thing.  I do have a shared garden with my mother-in-law, and by shared I mean she does all the work and I reap the benefits, lol.

With that being said, I do know a thing or two about what she does in her garden, and trust me, she has awesome results every year!  So, when I tell you that you should stake your tomatoes, I am not saying it just to hear myself talk, I am saying it because it really is sound advice.

Not convinced?  Check out this video by Avant Garden Decor about how to grow the perfect tomatoes:

So does the type of tomato cage make a difference?  Since I am not an expert, I cannot say for myself, but my mother-in-law told me that the tomato cage I gave her (provided by Avant Garden Decor) was really great because it was easily adjustable, and you could take it apart for storage.  The other cages she is using are big and bulky, are not very tall, and do not allow for expansion as the plant grows.

I was able to capture a couple of pictures showing the Ultomato Tomato plant cage from Avant Garden Decor, and the old wire ones she she has been using.

You can see the Ultomato is much taller, and the support clips are adjustable to you can make your cage the appropriate height as your plant grows.  The metal one is short and fixed.

Does it make a difference?  The plant on the left does seem to be growing better, of course that could just be coincidence, lol.  You tell me!  🙂
