When dads wear diaper bags

When you have a new baby on the way you start to think about all the essentials that you might need to make your life as a parent a bit easier. Of course you want practical items (at least I did – after your third child you just realize that the cutesy stuff is useless), but you still want to be stylish when you can.

My husband, on the other hand, really couldn’t care less about what items we get as long as they serve a purpose and work well. There is one item, however, that has really been bugging me for some time. It is his choice in what to use as a diaper bag.

You see, he has been carrying around one of those reusable shopping bags as a diaper bag, which is fine and all, except when we go somewhere and I start to feel embarrassed. It really does look a little tacky to be carrying this around.

My assumption is that it has to do with the design of the diaper bag I have been using – which is pretty girly (and also not very roomy). So of course I decided to take matters into my own hands and find something that he would actually use!

I searched around but didn’t really find anything that I thought he would use. Either the designs weren’t right, or they just wouldn’t function well enough (we cloth diaper so it would need to be roomy enough to fit everything).

Then I found TWELVElittle. The TWELVElittle Unisex Courage Tote was EXACTLY what I was looking for. It is stylish enough that I’d love to carry it around, yet works well for my husband at the same time. Plus, it is really functional to boot!

My husband really likes that you can use it as a cross-body bag, that we can fit all the essentials, and that is very high quality.

I love that we can both use the diaper bag and still look classy.

Some of my favorite features of this diaper bag (as functionality is important after all):

  • Lots of room for storage. There are ample pockets on the exterior and interior that will allow for storage of all the necessities (bottles, paci, wipes, treats, extra clothes, diapers, the kitchen sink, etc.)  😉
  • An awesome hidden storage compartment that can hold any dirty items so they don’t muss up the rest of your things.
  • A fold-able changing pad. I truly love this feature. I use it every time we go out to eat, visit a store, or even when I can’t find a changing table – I know with the changing pad I’ll always have a clean place to lay baby for a change.

So tell us…

Did you and your husband/partner use the same diaper bag? What was your must-have item that you had to pack for every outing?

Thank you to TWELVElittle for sending us a great tote that we both love!

We used the same diaper bag, so I made sure it was gender neutral and not too cutesy. We had to pack a lot of extra burp cloths and cloths because our babies had severe reflux and it was so messy! Reply

My husband stayed home with our first two so it was really important that he liked the diaper bag. It was black and all business. I thought I wanted something cuter for Baby #3, but ended up returning it because it just wasn't practical. The looks like a great option, being both practical and nice to look at. Reply

TWELVElittle puts out such great diaper bags! My husband doesn't seem to mind (or least doesn't say otherwise) carrying feminine diaper bags, but I'm pretty sure that he'd like this one. Reply

That looks like a great universal bag for either mom or dad to carry. Seems like a lot of the design are really girly or have baby type designs on them. Reply

I love when Dad's help parent. Either by wearing and carrying the diaper bag... or by WEARING THE BABY like your husband did in the photo while pushing on the swing. :) Reply

I think we had a total baby bag-looking bag. My husband would hold it but it was obvious what it was. I love how classy (as you mentioned) this bag looks and it seems like a regular laptop/messenger bag on your hubs! Reply

Love this bag! We always used the little black ones we got at the hospital. Mainly I did this so hubs wouldn't be embarrassed to carry it. He offered to get me a Very Bradley at one point and I turned it down since it would not be conducive to him helping me carry it around. Wish I would have found the TwelveLittle 5 years ago. Reply

This is such a versatile bag. My husband didn't carry a bag of his own with the boys were young. HOwever I see more and more dads wearing something lately. Which is great because fathers being involved with their children is VERY important. Reply

My husband never minded carrying the diaper bag so long as it wasn't pink with fluffy bunnies on it. This one looks good, he would have carried it for sure. Reply

That's a great bag! I love the crossbody feature, too! And having a hidden place for dirties is great ... unless you forget to take them out! ;) Reply

We bought a diaper bag that was pretty unisex and shared it. Reply

Your family is adorbs. I haven't had a need for a diaper bag but for the nieces it was always girly. Men just have to deal. LOL! Reply

We are having our first and this has definitely come up. My husband wants his own diaper bag, since I tend to gravitate to the totes that tend to look a bit too much like purses. This one is pretty cool, because we could both carry it. Reply

My husband and I always used the same one. It was just easier than trying to switch them out. Also, they looked like diaper bags so it was obvious who it was for. Reply
